You might think that by the time older people receive care, there's no room for them to improve. The evidence doesn't support that view! Even older people in nursing homes with care and medical needs can double the size and strength of their leg muscles in just six weeks. Even our company optimist didn't expect that! Most clients have the potential to improve to some degree, at least for a time.
Did you know that up to 60% of older people receiving care at home would be willing to try some simple, specific exercises to maintain or improve their independence? Those that do these exercises may need up to 15% less care after recovering some abilities. Of course, that doesn't last forever, but it does create some extra capacity to provide care – perhaps by getting a few more people out of hospital sooner. Clients and staff loved doing this in a trial and the Care Quality Commission described this care as 'outstanding'.
Do your staff ask if there is a piece of assistive technology that could help a client be more independent? No need to wait; just go to our staff site or LifeCurve™ app, select the functional (or other) goal the client has, answer the necessary questions (or validate any previous answers), and see the options. If you're worried about liability – don't worry, we have your back! Our expert advice has been developed over 20 years with hundreds of Allied Healthcare Professionals and is backed by our £2m/case Professional Indemnity policy.
Using various combinations of our digital tools/services, care organisations, from very small to large, can help maximise the functional and other potential of their clients. Summary reports can demonstrate the impact to stakeholders, including clients, family members, staff, and commissioners.
