Reading ruler option

Reading Ruler

The reading ruler is to assist you with reading the website. The ruler will follow the movements of your mouse cursor, covering the space above and below to make it easier to read one line at a time.

Screen reader

Screen Reader

For blind and visually impaired users we recommend NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access), a free "screen reader" application which reads the text on the screen in a computerised voice. This tool can be used on a variety of different programmes on your computer - not just your web browser or the Smartcare website.

You can control what is read to you by moving the cursor to the relevant area of text with a mouse or the arrows on your keyboard.

Click on the screen reader icon on the tool bar for more information and a link to download the programme on to your computer.

Self-Help Apps

The personalised Self-Management Expert Knowledge Apps, combined with the ADL Platform, provide a subscribing organisation with a trusted and secure expert knowledge system that offers local residents the ability to find and source help for themselves, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Having helped individuals and/or their families work out how they are doing (through the ADL LifeCurve™) and identified needs to be addressed, there is clearly a requirement for them to go somewhere to find trustworthy help specific to their individual circumstances. For self-funders it is arguably better (and more economical) that they stay out of mainstream services, yet crucial they must be able to access trustworthy help with maintaining their independence. ADL Smartcare’s Self-Management Expert Knowledge Apps provide the public access to embedded expert advice developed with the help of thousands of years of combined professional experience – with built in risk management that refers some people back into professional services when necessary. Activities, services and products are matched specifically to a user’s needs, allowing the users and their families to make an informed choice about the solutions and care needed.

As only 25% of ageing is genetic, we know that there are things that people can do to effectively shape the way they age. With the ADL LifeCurve™ and Self-Management Expert Knowledge Apps, a member of the public can find specific activities, services and products to help them to maintain/regain their independence and live better for longer.

Features of the ADL Platform include a mobile responsive design, a clear and simple user friendly design and the ability to save outcomes from assessments to the user’s plan.

The Self-Help Assessments generated on the ADL Platform can be monitored and reviewed by staff in the Administration system which also provides real-time reporting on the usage of the Self-Management Expert Knowledge Apps.

Some of the Self-Management Expert Knowledge Apps

There are a number of Expert Advice Apps available for Self-Help assessment which allow users to tap into the expert knowledge embedded within the apps to find solutions appropriate for both the user and their environment.
